Citronella essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the the leaves and stems of different species of cymbopogon.
Citronella oil is an effective plant-based minimal risk insect repellent that repels lice and keeps ticks and stable flies away from lifestock and pets. This oil also kills lice and fleas.
We suggest using it in combination with our Neem Seed Oil to treat head lice.
Citronella essential oil is part of many mosquito repelling formulas. It is especially prized for it’s ability to prevent a species of mosquito, called aedes aegypti whose bite causes the dreaded Yellow Fever.
A study conducted by ARPA in 1963 determined that hydroxycitronellal was an effective repellent against leeches.
Research also shows that citronella oil has strong antifungal properties that help suppress the growth of fungi species, such as Aspergillus, Penicillium, and Eurotium.
